Dr. Reinhard Nagl, retired, and living a life of rigidly ordered, self imposed isolation on his estate in the Austrian Alps, receives a surprise visit from his old (and possibly only) friend, Lorenz, who has come to help celebrate the doctor’s 70th birthday. Upon assaying the circumstances, Lorenz determines to restore his good compatriot’s lost compassion and enthusiasm for life, and a chance encounter with Magdalena, Nagl’s long lost but never forgotten flame, provides the perfect catalyst, demonstrating that it is never too late in life for second chances or redemption.
